Park Lane Academy

Career Events

Throughout  the year we run many different careers events in school.  These are designed to broaden students’ awareness of the many career opportunities that there are available to them and raise their aspirations,

Most of these career events give students the opportunity to meet people from the world of work; we strongly believe that ‘real world’ role models are vital to helping our students make informed decisions about their futures.

Several of the events also give students the opportunity to meet post-16 and post-18 providers and apprenticeship providers to help them focus on their ‘next steps’.

Aim Higher: Autumn Term: representatives from different universities discuss what life is like there and the journey they went on to achieve this goal. C&K Careers and Own Futures provide valuable information in the morning about a student's pathway from school, through college or sixth form to university.

Post 16 Options Day: Autumn Term: A wide range of external providers come to Park Lane to share what they have to offer for students after Year 11. Colleges, Sixth Forms and Business Groups are available to discuss their courses and hand out literature in the afternoon. In the morning, every student in Year 11, is presented with information and a timeline for careers options as well as giving them the chance to ask lots of questions. This links with Calderdale's "GET STARTED" on-line events.

Year 11 Parents Evening: Autumn and Winter Term: As well as being able to converse with teaching staff, parents and carers have the opportunity to discuss post 16 options with a resident Careers Advisor.

Careers Convention: Spring Term: Every year all students at Park Lane have the opportunity to see what they might want to do after they leave in Year 11. The Careers Convention is packed full of external providers in order to raise the aspirations and ambitions of our students. Many of them come away from the event inspired with a new purpose for learning.
